The fact that their love transcends both life, death, and now transitioning? That’s beautiful and it just makes me insanely happy.
Did it take years for Sulla? Or is Al’s case different?
I guess that, in Sulla’s case, as she was still growing up, there was the usual adjusting, troubleshooting and optimizing – a.k.a. adolescence.
If we assume Sulla ‘ages’ at a normal rate, then yes.
Sulla’s transition has been continuous! She and Brendan have been upgrading and modifying her body over time. As a trans person myself, that’s highly relatable. Transition wasn’t an instant, it’s a whole life of figuring out what works best for me.
I had the impression that Brendan simply changed the design of her next body, and that’s the one she still uses.
Yup, she and Brendan discuss their continuous improvements and bugs (a glitchy ankle iirc) when she’s trying to get up the courage to come out to him, and then there’s the big upgrade of flight

The background is that Brendan has spent these years growing up, and now he is a true adult! Mazal tov!
Brendan’s echoing what he said when Al seriously flinched at the idea of a relationship after their first night together (and also doing the opposite of what inspired Al to disappear into the woods by the river). He’s getting through to Al the same way Al got through to him by repeating ‘are you just going to stand there?’.

I only just realised what I might like the very most about this page though: the first two panels show us Al looking up.

I’ve been waiting on my new body since 2016, and now I gotta wait for the next page of the comic, and in both cases I’m both terrified with fear and alive with hope for what’s going to happen. . .let’s say I know where Al’s at.
