It’s definitely up to Al what to do with their own life and there probably aren’t any easy solutions here, especially as it would break everyone else’s heart if Al took off on their own but that might be exactly what they need, especially when experimenting with totally overhauled gender presentation. Some interesting/poignant tension developing between two things – 1. how easy it is for a synthetic person to alter their appearance (and thus bring their body into alignment with what feels right for them, whether for the sake of gender or anything else), and 2. the fact that gender confirmation surgery is an option for treating dysphoria but not a cureall for trauma.
I don’t get the sense he wants to leave. More that he doesn’t want his past trauma to be projected upon Sulla. He had been on his own before he died with the emotional walls he built—including being in the closet (both as gay but also as trans). Choosing to embrace the little family he has (and deserves) versus disappearing would be more logical and kind to Sulla. Now whether that is with Brendan as an ex who has become a dear close friend or as a love, who knows. I very well could be wrong about Al staying as well. Love this story so far either way and believe whatever the future holds for our characters will be positive. I am going to miss it so much when it concludes.
imo, I would be absolutely pleased if my mother told me I deserved a live not tethered to hers. (I’m assuming that’s what you’re referring to!)
what Al means is that Sulla shouldn’t have to live her live as if she’s bound in some way to Al. obviously they have a family relationship, but that doesn’t mean that she has to be responsible for his wellbeing or anything. I hope that makes sense?
I’m glad Al is encouraging for Sulla to be her own person. I just hope Brendan emphasizes that Al is not being a burden on Brendan and Sulla, because I think Al needs to hear it.
Also, thanks for the opportunity to ogle Brendan’s back, haha
Is this the last time we’ll see the mustache!?
Are Al and Brendan going to stay together!?
;wwwww; *getting ready for emotional obliteration*

one of the absolutely worst things a mother could say, ouch

What a beautiful page! The last panel is especially so very moving!
I want them to stay together so badly that I looked at the steam from their mugs as a sign. Ha!

This is amazing
Al honey this is one of the worst things a child can hear from their mother, please reconsider and stick around
She HAD a childhood??? cmon Al
It’s funny (funny strange, not funny ha-ha) how they’re both kinda right about Sulla, but really speaking about themselves.
She certainly deserves to have both parents! Actually, it’s a wonderful thing to be tethered to somebody you love and respect. It’s called a family.
