OKAAAYYY. So Sulla isn’t behind the previous Als… which begs the question who was, and why? Are they trying to get leverage over Brendan? Do the robots actually want to help their co-creator by bringing Al back to him, in some well-meaning manner? Who actually IS Anubis-bot? Tsade in a new body? A robo-proxy for another player (the General?)?
I started assuming a long time ago that Tsade, Anubisbot, and Menacing Black Square were one and the same – could be wrong but it seems a good fit and they do all have the same very brusque manner. Not sure whether the ballerina had already existed as a companion of theirs or whether she(?) was created to help New-Al realise what was going on. Very intrigued indeed.
Random fankid downloaded the “assets for Al’s face from a forum or something.” My bet is Tsade made that too, as they’d been planning on emancipation for quite a while.
Oh wow, look who else is in the background of that sequence! (And watching Brendan’s reaction, assuming I’m not reading too much into that ‘1’-shaped face)
AAAAAH this is fascinating! Yep. The commission did come from Mr. Pinsky’s estate, and her joy at Brendan accepting Al was genuine – but Tsade and company did most of the mechanical stuff. Did she borrow the multitool while she was at it?
Wow… Something about this scene is so very much like a fairy tale/fable—especially panel 4. How strange to see Sulla in such a formal getup—especially after how she disregarded Brendan telling her to change her clothes when Al first meets her. I’m assuming the Ai is Tsade given how abrupt they are (much like we’ve seen of Tsade). Betting the “dog” who helped the ballerina bring Al into the world is also this Ai.
omg this is so exciting! Tsade looks amazing! I love how you drew this scene as well. It reminds me of a fairytale–Sulla carrying a package through the forest to make a deal with someone she doesn’t really know.
I wonder if we’ll find out what the heck this entity is. Also, who would have been behind previous androids. I guess Alistair was a near-mythic person, in part due to Brendan’s efforts, so it stands to reason others would try to immortalize Al.
I wonder – how did they reconstruct Al’s body? Did they have external data, or did they extract Al’s memory of their own body? If the latter, how are they not aware of their dysphoria? Or did they not care?
I would guess it’s a little of both? I mean, there were probably records of Al’s physical status (like medical records for his height/weight, photos from articles and Brendan’s personal collection to show his build/skin tone/hair and eye color, etc.), but Al’s memory of their own body would be necessary to integrate his mind with his body, you know?
Just discovered your incredible comic and read everything in a day. I cannot easily express just how beautiful and painful it is to read this. Thank you.
Can someone explain who Tsade is? At this point in the story I’ve totally forgot and can’t find where they are mentioned (although the name sounds familiar).
I’m getting a very matrix like vibe from Tsade/Anubis and the Ballerina, like a psychological duality of sorts (are they both derived from different representations of Al’s subconscious?). One is very like the architect (emotionless, direct), the other more approachable (friendly, thoughtful) like the Oracle.

It’s so Tsade-like—in both looks and (more clearly) their abrupt to-the-point comments.
And Sulla was going through Brendan’s “Lucille” folder in the previous page.
If this isn’t Tsade, it’s another AI created by or related to Tsade…

Random fankids. Because they could. We’ve seen them before:

uh-huh, okay, and uh-oh all at once…

Oh my, this is a very interesting question.
I mean, one’s body map and one’s dysphoria probably aren’t stored in the same parts of the brain

The emancipated robot from the Villa subplot.

Aaahhhh;;;;;
(also this is a very surprising outfit to see Sulla in for some reason, much floatier than her usual style, but she’s sooooo cute)
