Ooh, interesting. Possible that Sulla had a hand in it, but my money’s still on Tsade, whose brain isn’t based on a human’s and probably doesn’t identify with any human gender.
Yeah we still don’t know enough about Tsade to see where they fit in the story but now I will comb through the whole comic anyway to find clues for a secret project Sulla hid from Brendan
Suddenly Sulla’s library trips and infodumping to Titus n’ co have an unnerving potential connotation. In the meantime, Al has some definite anti-natalist things to say to their (re)maker.
Also can I just say, that first panel feels so *visceral*, I really like it! And it’s kind of a cool throwback to Al tugging on their clothing when they get antsy…
long time reader first time commenter etc but i just wanted to say that al’s entire arc really hits hard as a long-time closeted/questioning trans person. this was probably one of the first pieces of media with any trans character in it that i’ve read and it’s been handled so well and with such emotion, i’ve always found it difficult to relate to purely positive and confident depictions of trans people so al and sulla really resonate with me
Oh Al, please don’t hurt yourself 😫 And it just reminds of Sulla hurting herself by scratching her arms, in that scene she comes out to Brendan. It is painful to see all of the similarities between both scenes and Brendan’s understanding of each of them
This still leaves it open for Sulla (she) or Tsade (they? Do we know what pronouns Tsade uses?) Or we could get a third act twist and it’s been LUCILLE THE WHOLE TIME
Al is angry because whoever brought Al back brought Al back in the image of a man, but Al isn’t a man. There’s a BIG unanswered question in OHS of “Who brought Al back?” The final, unattributed line here is “It wasn’t a man [who brought you back]”. Which implies someone knows who it was who brought Al back… and a lot of fans think it was Sulla.
Why would Al care they brought him back in the image of a man? He can just change his parts to whatever he wants, right? If he was trans, why wouldn’t he be happy about all of this? He has a second shot at living life how he actually wanted to, and can transition to whatever/whoever he wants extremely easily. I don’t understand how this makes sense
I don’t think Al’s thought that far ahead. We’re seeing what looks like some deep-seated self hatred here, probably lifelong dysphoria that got shoved down under some denial.
Al died and came back into the body that he viewed as a mistake, the body he might very well have spent a lifetime despising. He didn’t choose to come back, someone made that choice FOR him, and they stuck him with THIS.
He may also feel that he can’t change, because he’s so well known.
Dysphoria doesn’t work that way. Dysphoria doesn’t care. It makes you depressed, and sad, and cranky, and angry. It prevents you from seeing the positive upsides of a situation.
Al is having a breakdown because of dysphoria. Al can’t think straight right now. Once they’ve calmed down they’ll see the upsides, but for now it’s just a dark fog.
I don’t think changing Al’s body is necessarily THAT easy. Even if it is, Al’s still had to deal with feeling wrong, and like a mistake, since their activation (and all their life before that). That is hard to endure.
I’m trans myself, and if I died and got reborn in a sparkly transhumanist future- one where you can biohack yourself into anything- but my new body was the same garbage heap‡ I spent my life trying to get away from? If everyone on Earth worshipped the old closeted-me whose name wasn’t even mine? If my ex implied that my gender came from *corrupted data?* Honestly, if Al did go out and fight whoever brought hir back, xie would be 100 percent justified.
‡it doesn’t matter that Al’s original body is hot. dysphoria doesn’t care how objectively attractive you are. the things that Brendan likes about Al’s body (hir muscles, the beard that Al wanted to shave) are exactly the things that mark Al as butch, and that probably fuel hir body issues.
Intense! I love the unattributed “It’s not a him.”
OHHHHHHHH SHit
OH no
Sulla was it YOU???
(LITERALLY gasped out loud)
SULLA!!!!
Ooh, interesting. Possible that Sulla had a hand in it, but my money’s still on Tsade, whose brain isn’t based on a human’s and probably doesn’t identify with any human gender.

Haha! She did ask him for a raise on her allowance.
(Oh my and what if Brendan’s only guessing, and he guesses wrongly or incompletely, and Sulla’s still listening as he does so? The suspense!)
Suddenly Sulla’s library trips and infodumping to Titus n’ co have an unnerving potential connotation. In the meantime, Al has some definite anti-natalist things to say to their (re)maker.
Me: Is this anticipation or the fever I’m feeling?
*reads update*
Me: Both.
I also think it’s Sulla and Tsade. Sulla for providing the memory data, Tsade for execution.
Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh Sulla.
Have there been puns about grounding Sulla before?
hERE WE F—ING GO
The climax of this story is so exciting, great job Blue, I look forward to every update
OH SNAP

Nice touch with Gimel holding Brendan back…
Oh! He’s holding him back! I thought Brendan lost his footing and Gimel caught him. A he’s a very sensible Robot then.
God, this is all so interesting.
“It’s not a him…”
OH SNAP – Sulluminati confirmed!
I KNEW IT WAS SULLA GDI
GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA SUlla no
I suspect it’s just “it’s a group of ppl” lol
Oh Al, please don’t hurt yourself 😫 And it just reminds of Sulla hurting herself by scratching her arms, in that scene she comes out to Brendan. It is painful to see all of the similarities between both scenes and Brendan’s understanding of each of them
Wait, I don’t get it. What did Sulla do?
She might have created Al’s body and used her own memory engrams to recreate his mind.
This still leaves it open for Sulla (she) or Tsade (they? Do we know what pronouns Tsade uses?) Or we could get a third act twist and it’s been LUCILLE THE WHOLE TIME
wait can someone explain whats happening

I hope that answered the question!

But how’d you do it, Sulla?
(Unless that’s Gimel expressing a preference to not be called “he,” thank you very much Titus.)
