Page 23. Back home.
I’m doing a livestream on Monday night, 8 pm CST – join me as I ink a future OHS page!
Copies of Meal are on their way to bookstores, with an updated release date of December 25. Consider picking it up as a holiday present for yourself! Here’s a link to the book on Amazon, but considering putting an order in at your local bookstore!
Damnit Al, you grumpy old curmudgeon! Accept your pseudo-clone-daughter’s unconditional love into your heart already!
Very good wording on Sulla’s part. Putting the ball in his court, letting him have some control over the situation. But also showing understanding and compassion so that he’s not feeling pressured to choose.
Call him dad!
This is very touching!
Whether or not she was involved, Sulla lives mostly at home and is brilliant, and has surely noticed the purported string of attempts at recreating Al. No wonder she was thrilled when Brendan accepted one of them.
I love that the best hope for reconciling Al and Brendan is the accidental offspring of their psyches. Brendan poured enough love and little enough impatience into raising Sulla that she can give Al something he’s never had.
Aw.how can you deny such a sweet and honest entreaty, Al? Regardless of how you got here, you have a chance that few if any people ever have; you are here, now, and you have a second chance, not only with the one you love, but also at having the family you would have never had if you hadn’t died. Shut up, be thankful, and go home with your daughter who obviously loves you.
“..If he would let her meet me she’d be able to tell. And it would have been harder for me.”
This begs the question: Does Sulla fully know the context of Brendan’s and Al’s relationship? To me I say it’s implying that she does know at least some part.
It could be that she doesn’t realize that Brendan is essentially her second parent, and not just Al’s friend who was continuing Al’s work.
She seems to partically believe that Lucille played a role in her “conception” when in reality it was Brendan and Al together and Lucille was just the doctor who helped transition her from robot to himan and then later male to female.
Cannot tell you how much I look forward to the panels. This story has gotten very rich, and there’s still much to uncover and explore.
<3
So Lucille is like her birthmother…. oh wow this comic makes me cry
Or more so like a doctor in some cases.
Especially knowing what we do now, Sulla was essentially “concieved” by Brendan with Al as the “donor”, if you will.
Lucille wasn’t needed to create her, but when Sulla wanted to transition (from robot to human and then male to female) then she was needed to help make that change, which is important too.
Rereading this comic since it’s ended and I realised that Brendan is treating Sulla similarly to how he complained that Al treated him. Al kept Brendan a secret, nobody knew about their relationship, and now he’s doing the same to Sulla in a way. It’s amazing how much Brendan has made a lot of the same sort of mistakes he criticised Al for…
