Sulla is being naive (again)(and understandably so). Sulla could wear a cover over her hair, but Lucille would only need to look at her Al-like face, and deduce that she was almost certainly a robot based on Al.
She might wonder why Sulla is female, but the deduction follows from everything she knows about Brendan and Al.
Very interesting. I bet Lucille has worked out most of what’s going on. She reads Brendan possibly better than anyone, and is generally sharp as a blade.
This has bothered me for a while, but… it’s actually scary how isolated Sulla is. I know she goes downtown, but as far as I can tell, Brendan and Gimel are the only people she’s ever known and talked to. I mean, recently she’s met Al, and Ty and their friends, but for most of her life I think she was mostly alone.
I know Brendan means well, but that’s not a good thing to do to a kid.
I agree. Echoes of “The Tempest”. Powerful father figure with difficult past, daughter entering brave new world, nonhuman in subordinate role – living in seclusion. All shaken up by unexpected delivery of person(s) from the past to the front door.
I guess the cat’s out of the bag now, though, so she may as well. Hopefully Lucille would employ considerably more tact than she’s sometimes had with Brendan, but I imagine she probably would, since she’s so blunt with him because of their long history together.
I imagine Luce would be angry with Brendan by hiding such amazing things from her, not because any intellectual property violation.
There might be other fairly humanoid robots around. But Sulla may be the first (with Al the second) attempt at resurrecting a dead person from brain scans. An experiment that is too ethically controversial to be made in public.
But it’s also the reason this girl exists. A new person with a whole soul, with all the wonder and fragility that entails, regardless of how she mas made and came to be.
Hm. This recognition leads me to some speculation that had been swirling around in my head for a while, but only now is coalescing. Suppose Al was brought back by the AI that declared independence for themselves a while back, the one that Brendan had “gifted” to Lucy? They would have had the knowledge and access to not only have a copy of Al’s original brain scan, but also to clear up the inconsistencies over time to create the version of Al that exists today, as well as use the technology that allows Sulla to exist. This would best explain how Al came to be brought back; now all we need to find out is why.
Ooooh.
when it comes down to it, do any of us look human enough?

Now we’re getting somewhere.

Jay, you’re totally right.

She definitely won’t be angry with Sulla.
