… Christ, what an asshole.
OR WITH SULLA!
Haha, ouch!
Ouch
Nope – “…in which case, the fault lies with the original template, which this copy cannot help but act upon out of no fault of his own.” To use a bit of an eclectic parallel, you could not clone Hitler and then entirely blame the clone for being a bit of a huge asshole.
Can’t you, though? Is he not Hitler for all intents and purposes? If Hitler remains Hitler when his consciousness is discontinuous due to sleeping, is it truly any different when the discontinuity is due to a copy of his mind being later put into a new body? Does it really philosophically matter that he happened to be dead in the middle?
Of course, it’d be a different story if the copy were imperfect, but then blame would fall on the copiers anyway.
Oh lordy, this pair is sounding more unsettling by the minute. Getting real goosebumps about these folks’ intentions here…
Yeah, I’m seriously starting to worry about Al’s safety there……
(If the word “liability” comes up in the following pages I’m going to be nope-ing even harder than I am right now)
It’s not nice to call your creations faulty to their face. While implying you yourself are perfect.
Yes, they are acting like stereotypical cold machines.
Besides the infallibility of AI is, pardon the digression, BS. Now we know AI can be as biased as humans, maybe more given it lacks empathy or common sense.
These ones I expected to be better or more understanding, doing Al’s revival out of pity or thankfulness to the pioneer who allowed their existence. Seems I was wrong, and as if Al has to get out of there ASAP.
Because, as everyone knows, environments are all pretty much the same for people in different times and places, so one’s actions are just a direct result from their own personal body and mind.
Wow, buddy, do you not understand humans AT ALL.
That may actually be what they are trying to achieve here. Are these guys actual imprints like Al or are they emergents like Tsade? Are they “aping” irrational (or spontaneous) behaviour or actually capable of it? A study of Al – and Sulla – might show them how an imprint can evolve differently and give them a leap past “fixed” behavior.
This does not bode well.
Spoiler –
I have a feeling Sulla will be dropping in and rescuing Al very quickly—or getting harmed in the process of attempting to.
Arrogant shadow-jackal seems not to hear that failing to brief or help adapt Al to his new existence and time period led directly to disruptive effects. Blame the victim. :(
This is just spruced up abusive parent speech. Fuck you dog.
Ok, so that’s some cheerful feedback from the god of the dead. Is Al going to get his heart weighed against a feather?
And the ballerina…oh…are they the representative of a different faction?
I know that the fellow in black’s delivery leaves a lot to be desired, but i parsed him as basically saying “Now look, don’t blame us for what nature gave you”, i.e., Al can’t blame anyone for his behaviour but himself, and he needs to own up to it if anything’s going to be better.
He’s not wandering the woods after a blowup fight because his mind map is shonky or his body isn’t right, it’s because Al, the dude, is a bit of a screwed-up human being who’s acting out and not dealing with his issues well.
So, yeah, The bedside manner ain’t great, but the doctor speaks some truth.
so where the hell did they get their source data to be so confident in its faultlessness
rereading all in one go today has me wondering if other synthetics had a bigger hand in Al’s resurrection than I originally thought. given the synth reaction to him on the street…. and the way Tsade developed on his own… hmmmmm
I’m very late with reading but I wanted to comment on this page to say that obviously Al is only at fault of running from some problems instead of trying to do something about them. It’s not his fault he was brought back after dying. That would fuck with anyone’s head if it happened to them. Humans aren’t really supposed to get back to being alive after dying, and since he had some stuff going on before he passed, of course that’s going to pour into the present.
His past-related issues are kinda his fault, but the fact he was brought back to life without permission, was forced back into the world and has to deal with his problems AGAIN is not his fault at all.
