This is so good. So so good. I can only hope it goes this smoothly, when the time comes.
Any sentient AI will likely have read and seen what humanity thinks of it. We can only hope it doesn’t scare them off.
So I guess these are the circumstances that helped shape the world Al woke up in, and how Sulla is who she is in the present. I am not clear on this; does Lucy know of Sulla’s existence yet at this point? It doesn’t seem like it. If not, judging by how she is reacting to Tsade’s departure, I’m thinking Brendan will be able to tell her soon–and the conversation should go a lot more smoothly than I initially suspected.
Ooh, fascinating. Maybe they brought Al back to fight for them, or in an attempt to get through to Brendan. If that’s what’s going on, the title of the comic could be read as a collective plea on the part of AIkind.
Wouldn’t Tsade rather establish himself as a sapient being and not just sentient?
Because you could argue that a robot is already sentient as it has an AI. For example, all animals are considered to be sentient, but Tsade wants to be recognized as equal to other people not animals. People’s sapience (i.e: their ability to reason) is what is said to separate us from animals.
This is a little nitpicky, but it’s an important distinction!
Lol 7 comments already and yet still no comments on previous strip, where it’s just two humans (albeit a gay guy and a disabled woman) talking about their feelings and offering each other support… ;)
Really, Tsade’s ability to take initiative to assemble paperwork to assert personhood all but proves that synthetic personhood will be the law someday. When that day comes, what side of history do you want to be on?

Brendan’s reaction in panel 4 is perfect. Says it all.
Wow…. wait, is Tsade the person Brendan called to inquire about Al’s reappearance a few chapters back?

No, you’re right, in this conversation it’s important to make that distinction and I’ve updated the dialogue accordingly. Thanks for the catch!
Well, good thing this is a completely unique situation, Brendan, and in now way whatsoever posesses any relevance to your own home lif
A very smart decision.
