Oh jeez, I’m relieved Brendan didn’t blow up at the kid. Good on you, buddy.
Damn. I admire his self control, though I was kinda looking forward to Brendan tearing that kid’s head off.
Becoming a parent prepared him for this.
I’m confused, what did the kid do? I feel like I’m forgetting something.
Unless that Al there is a ghost, the kid made a robot version of Al. Brendans dead boyfriend and workmate.
Also how is Al there, isn’t this after he died? Is this supposed to be showing that this is the kid/bot that Brendan put Al’s incomplete brain scan in, so Als there “in spirit?” If so, it’s not very clear that he’s not just literally there.
In the first chapter Brendan mentioned that there were many robot Als that came to him over the years our Al was dead. This is the first one, made by the kid.
Oh, man, Brendan’s totally the “I’m not mad I’m just disappointed” dad, isn’t he?
The likeness to Al is so good, I wonder If Brendan’s negotiating to buy the outer shell so he can put his own version of Al’s brain in it.
Gotta say I’m glad to see Brendan keep his cool. The kid is likely just a fan of Al and wanted to make a robot of the man he admires. Brendan is a good guy. I’m proud of him, weirdly.
Anyone else getting Buddy/Syndrome vibes here?
“It tore me apart. But I learned a very good lesson: you can’t count on anyone. Especially your heroes!”
took me a while to peice that together. That’s Sulla before the gender swap and she made an AL-BOT-9000. Curious on the motive tho. Internal or done for Brendan’s sake?
OK, read abt the edit on the prev page. So it’s not Sulla? Sulla still makes more sense to me if the timing can be smoothed out so the body fits and so it’s plausible she could have the skill (and independence from Brendan) req’d to make the robot. Plus, Brendan’s “ownership” of the situation makes much more sense when it’s Sulla – if it was some rando with an Al bot, then the natural reaction is more like pain or discomfort than to bring the kid to a back room.
