she’s actually 15 in chapter 1 (i don’t remember if she’s 16 now? she hasn’t had a birthday in-comic). at one point al says “you could pass for any sixteen-year old girl i’ve ever seen” and sulla responds “fifteen”
She’s almost 16 (the blue timeline is c. February 2021 – her birthday’s in April), and the change happened on her 13th birthday (though it’s ‘Optimal’ that makes this clearer than anything else). Brendan’s rounding up a little.
i feel silly (and i’m sure it’ll be explained in the next page) but i don’t get what she’s asking for either! does she want to start transitioning in bits and pieces? or does she not want to replace her whole body when she gets older because she’s afraid of, i don’t know, robot puberty?
I think she’s trying to emulate the way bodies change as they grow older. The changes aren’t immediate; they happen slowly, or in spurts, but never in one shot.
This could mean she wants to experience certain features of her body changing, slowly.
I figure she’s testing what hypothetically could and couldn’t be changed (physically and in terms of Brendan’s willingness). Not sure how certain she is yet about the feeling of it being off being a gender thing, but if that’s come into focus for her, it’s possible she’s trying not to give it away.
I think it’s because she’s realizing she doesn’t like the direction her body(s) are going. I’m assuming she wants thicker and more feminine legs, and her arms/shoulders to stop getting bigger.
*sobbing* Seriously, how do you keep doing this to me?
To those who are confused; my interpretation is that the poor girl knows puberty is in the pipeline. When you’re a little kid, there’s not much difference between boys and girls, and the parts that are different, you don’t really use anyway. The older you get, the farther apart boys and girls become. This body is just ever so slightly more masculine and less androgynous than the last one. So 3 years from now…
“You don’t REALLY have to do that to me, right?? You can make me taller and let me grow up without making me go through that, right??”
Oh yeah, that makes sense! I was wondering if it was something to do with “puberty,” but the idea that she wants to get older without experiencing the full-body changes of puberty explains it perfectly.
Oooo…. I didn’t think of that. I thought she was trying to open the conversation to ask to change body parts to help her transition. During puberty, many cis girls (and probably trans girls who get hormones early) have really long legs when they hit 11-16. Most cis women (and likely trans women who transition early enough) have proportionately longer legs than cis men. I’m about a foot smaller than my husband, and our legs are the same length.
BTW, women with shorter legs can and do exist (and are beautiful, too—beauty comes in all shapes and sizes), but this is how many girls/women are built and are shown in media—and likely a few legs get photoshopped to look even longer than they are. That’s what I was thinking when Sulla was asking about legs….
Brendan is missing the signals . . .
Because *girls* want longer legs, Brendan. You delightfully oblivious fool (like most of us parents). XD
How old was she went she transitioned? For some reason I remember 13, but I could be wrong…
it was 12! brendan says it was “three years ago” in chapter 1
I thought she was 16?

He’s missing a different train this time
Aahh she’s pudgy <3 (A lot of circuits to stuff in there?)
She looks like a normal kid for that age—especially since she is based off Al who seems to have a pretty heavy bone structure.
Brendan looks like he’s mid-sneeze!

I’m not sure if I’m making myself clear here…
that makes sense, but i’m still wondering why! maybe i’m trying too hard to relate it to her gender
“So how come you redo EVERYTHING? (Why can’t you just change a few things out? Like, this thing here, and these here?)”

Sulla would look like when Steven Universe shapeshifted to get on a roller coaster.

At least, that was my take.
Oooh, that makes sense! Thanks!

Oh my, this is a fascinating take on it that hadn’t occurred to me. Thanks for sharing.
