Page 6. Brendan, wait. Brendan, wait. Brendan, wait –
I will be attendingĀ Emerald City Comicon this Thursday thru Sunday (Table F5 with geniusbee!), so unless a freelance assignment wraps up quicker than I expect next page may be delayed until Thursday 4/15. I’ll keep you posted.
And join me this Monday, 4/4 at 7 pm CST for an art livestream!
Is Brandon lying to himself (and Al)?
The answer is yes, probably, but not in any meaningful way, in the current frame. I think it’s wiser to state it as “It’s complicated”
Ok, When Brendan says to Al “How could I give Sulla less than the best image I have of you?”, by ‘best image’ I hope what is being said is not “I trimmed your mind scan image down into the bonsai tree perfect idealization of what I wanted you to be.” Parents genetically tinkering with their kids DNA so they are ‘what they want’ is disgusting. Tinkering with someone’s mind until they fit your idea of ‘what you want’ is an abomination. I sincerely hope this is not what Brendan did, but with all the negative garbage he is spewing about Al, It is apparent he wasn’t very happy with Al in the ‘good ol days’ either if he is being honest with Al 2.0 in the present. I’m beginning to think Brendan is actually more fucked up than Al.
Brendan has already said that Sulla’s mind is an exact copy of Al’s when he waso dying in he hospital so I think he means the image of Al that he told Sulla about as she was growing up. Same as you would highlight the best aspects of a dead parent to their child so they had a good model to look up to.
Sulla’s memories of Al never fully developed. What she knew about Al, she learned from Brendan. Brendan painted a picture of Al to Sulla by highlighting all the GOOD Al did and his positive character traits. He didn’t tinker with her DNA or mind, rather he kept his promise to Al when he died and made sure the public didn’t know what he didn’t want them to know, such as his family life and him being in a relationship with Brendan.
not bad, Blue
not too bad at all
and it may be … 10 days (assuming you don’t throw in a red or, even, a White), until we know al’s reaction to brendan’s nasty statement was?
quite the cliff’s hanger, m’lady!
You know, I was really about to be totally disgusted with Brendan. Until I remembered that this isn’t the ONLY Al to land on Brendan’s doorstep. He’s the BEST Al version, to date, to land on his doorstep! Whomever keeps doing this to Brendan is playing a masterful game…Brendan has had to repeat some version of this a few times up until now. And THIS go-round is totally turning his mind, emotions, and life inside out.
No, Brendan. Brendan no. This is not going to end well.
To be fair, it never was.
Though, there is some chance for things to go better, after it ends badly.
Speaking as a widow, I know exactly where Brendan is coming from. You don’t forget the bad, but part of the love that remains is always concerned with putting your lover’s best foot forward in memory. So hey. Give the guy a break.
The reality is my husband would still throw his socks around (or whatever, I was never too concerned about socks). That’s not the part I would talk about unless he came back. then of course we would talk about socks (or whatever).
If Al was always work-oriented that is what Brendan would put forward, not the emotional distance. He might talk about it with Sulla, though–that would have been smart.
