In reply to Ruth or Ford. Brendan can say he was in love with Al and leave Al's feelings unspecific. It would even be fair to say he doesn't want to talk about the guy behind his back. Probably the only course that lets him grieve without outing Al.

I always thought that Lucille knew about Al and Brendan but never said anything, but this scene makes me wonder if she thought that Brendan was in love with Al and it was unreciprocated

I’m sorry I wasn’t around for the second half of Saturday – it bummed me out when my friends told me I missed some big fans. But I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and get a comic – I promise I’ll be back in New York next year!

I was so super excited to finally get a physical copy of a webcomic that i love and inspires me so much as an artist and aspiring comic creator. I just started reading this comic last night, and it’s been an amazing ride. What a poignant place to “end” that first binge, and join the general crowd of fans moving at the speed of updates. I can’t wait to see where this comic continues to go!

Oh, my heart is just aching for poor Brendan! I first read OHS in 2013( I think I heard about it on Autostraddle?) and I just re read it. Blue, thank you for this story!! The Brendan and Al love story just slays me. It’s been ping ponging in my head for years. I also want to say how much I like Sulla’s character. I am super intrigued to see how her synth/human identity will continue to develop. Also- her origin story kind of reminds me of Athena springing from Zeus’s head and I like that. Also- thank you for drawing lots of women scientists and engineers. Pretty badass.

I think one of the worst effects of Al being closeted was Brendan couldn’t mourn him. A vital part of grieving is opening up, sharing memories and experiences of the deceased. But because Brendan kept Al’s secret, he couldn’t do that.

If it doesn't feel like an imposition, I'd like to hear it. Fresh Air on NPR tonight, Bruce Springsteen is talking about his book, and his motorcycle wreck, and getting an (involuntary) haircut while laid-up.
