If someone is hurt or hurting, you can’t always fix it. If something is damaged, I can see mentally people equating that to something that can always be fixed.

Myself and a few people I’m close to say “Can you function?” But that’s mostly just us saying “I know you’re depressed and messed up but can you make it through this?”

I agree. I’m surprised he would say that to her to be honest. Even if you don’t consider her feelings it’s just weird to say to another sentient being “are you damaged?”
