Page 68. The party gets bigger.
Live in the Atlanta area? Why don’t you attend the Decatur Book Festival this weekend and get some books from me and Reed Black at tent #719? Here’s info on where I’ll be.
The Oath Anthology is going strong and has a little over two weeks to raise at least $7,000. Want to see a story featuring Lucille and her awesome prosthetic limbs? Back it, maybe!
Al has such a way with children-
I think this is why Brendan had better luck with Sulla XD
LOOK AT THE SMALL CHILD, OH GOSH!!!! Super cute designs here, Blue!
Also, Brendan’s face in the last panel, love it!
Brendan looks like the one middle-schooler who did the rap version of ‘Empire State Of Mind’ without stuttering once.
Lee’s face just reads: I just came to the wrong neighborhood, didn’t eye?
You came to the wrong neighborhood, Mr. Man.
Really sympathetic for Al in this situation. Unexpected social obligations are not something you spring on someone as introverted as Al. At best you ruin his day, at worst he blows up and sends everyone away, and yells at Brendan later. It’s easy for Brendan to not notice this, or understand, because he seems to be an extrovert.
I really hope this resolves okay. Al’s clearly under a huge amount of anxiety.
I’m glad you said this. I was thinking the same thing. It really speaks about how dysfunctional their relationship is, for Brendan to just ignore Al’s feelings like this.
I suspect Brendan invited so many people out of spite/revenge for Al’s slight at the other party, which seems petty and cruel. And EXTRA dysfunctional.
I’ve noticed how young Brendan handles a lot of scenarios that are, in a way, new to him. I don’t think he quite understands how anxiety or self harm, or anything else that Al has presented him with. I’ve noticed already that Brendan and Al were raised in two totally different situations, so it makes sense that Brendan wouldn’t know what to do first hand. He may not even notice Al’s anxiety to the whole thing.
I’ve got to give him some credit as this part of his character seems to have diminished now that older Brendan has a better understanding of all of this and most likely made an effort not to repeat these things with Sulla, who he probably deeply worried would suffer from similar things as Al.
I don’t think Brendan did it out of anger or spite, I guess that like many extroverted people he simply thinks he is helping Al here. Remember that he is young and inexperienced. It would be easier if Al could communicate more clearly how he feels, but I don’t think it’s his fault either. Al has had a difficult past and dealt with it by living alone. He lacks the tools to make himself understood.
Are those crystal-studded prosthetic legs?
You think that’s a response to that guy casually groping her legs at the last get together?
Luce, I LOVE those bedazzled prosthetics, girl
Lucille is way too cool! Snazzy legs? Check! Team of badalss lady engineers and technicians? Check!
And Al is taking this better than I expected, actually.
I love the look on the Colonel’s face. it just screams ‘I had NO IDEA there were women involved with this project at any level of importance and I’m NOT comfy with all of the estrogen in this room!’ Part of me is smirking in satisfaction – he’s in the same shoes Lucille had to wear during the meeting with all the straight white entitled military men and he’s doing a much poorer job of hiding his surprise and discomfort.
Why is this reminding me of Beorn and the dwarves? “Did I say a few? Well, here’s #5 and #6.”
