Hunh. I remember in elementary school fishing iron out of the sandbox. I never thought to look for it in cereal.

I mean, I already know that food contains iron. Iron is beneficial to the functioning of the human body in the correct amounts, like many other elements.
Blood is red because it contains iron oxide. Get with it, people.

In reply to Rowan Thomas. So now I'm curious if in the future their foods are WAY more iron fortified, for it to be visible like that, or just artist's interpretation. (Given how the very informative video you linked showed the amounts in out cereal requires a 100x magnification power to see, except for that wiggling bran flake, wow...) Fruits and veggies out of the ground should have lots less.
Much of our iron intake used to come from cooking in cast-iron skillets. Now we get more teflon than iron…

In reply to brant. You may be thinking of titanium, which has the qualities you listed. Tungsten does dramatically increase the toughness of certain alloys, but it's almost twice as heavy as lead.
