I kinda empathize for Brendan, that’s a shitty place to be in. But at the same time, it’s nice to know he’s not just a rubber ball, letting everything bounce off him.
Ok so I get that Brendan is probably a little pissed at being referred to as Al’s “little spokesman,” as it’s pretty patronizing and invalidates his role as a co-inventor. But still. He seems mad at Al, which isn’t really fair.
Why tell these clowns anything? I suspect Al is going to give them the shock and awe treatment when they come to his house expecting another cocktail party. Fear the little spokesman and his Giant Robot!
It’s perfectly fair to be mad at Al. Al did nothing to contradict the impression that Brendon was just the hired help. Plus, he and the Colonel both ignored Brandon and Lucille. Personally, I’m sorry Brandon wasted 16 year mourning this tired closet case’s death instead of moving on to someone who appreciates him. Al was NOT worth it!
Oh c’mon! Look at Al’s face when he says it- he doesn’t really mean anything by it, he’s just taking the only route he sees to get out of an uncomfortable situation. Sure, I think there are times when Al undervalues Brendan’s contribution, but I don’t think this is one of those times, though Brendan seems to be reading it that way.
It’s not the “little spokesman” comment that got Brendan ticked off; look at his face in the first panel, it doesn’t yet show anger. After all, Brendan doesn’t actually care what the brasshole thinks; Brendan probably lumps him in with the same folks who were harassing Lucille, given that Lucille was a target of his “you can outshine her and your little spokesman” comment too. Brendan doesn’t actually show anger until Al responds with “Sure can.”. That one hurt, because Brendan actually cares what Al thinks. Al doesn’t really consider Brendan just his “little spokesman” (though “spokesman” is one of Brendan’s many jobs since he does do it far better than Al), but it was a thoughtless comment for Al to make regardless. And in the fight they’re going to end up having, it might become clear that Al made that kind of thoughtless comment because he can’t bring himself to speak up for Brendan, for fear of being outed.
^^ THIS. Exactly this. And I know Al just said “sure can” to keep the deal going. But there’s a time to stand up for your partner AND lover, and this was that time. Al failed, and he knows it.
Stay calm and take their money by the wheelbarrow load. This is extra funny considering that in the present day Brendan is the 8000lb gorilla from Kong Island, and you just know he remembers all this patronizing crap when they come to beg him for favors.
I foresee mutual resentment — Brendan for not getting the recognition he deserves, and Al for getting in trouble when he only accepted to enter this mess to please Brendan in the first place.
Wait, is Doc there angling to drive Al home? Maybe stop for a few drinks? Brendan shouldn’t care what Al says to them; Al seems to think they are empty suits.
Depends on the nature of that question. Do you mean it in an ‘I’m asking because I don’t know’ sense, or in a ‘I’m being patronizing because there was some obvious detail in the mention of his death that you, Leif, totally missed in your question’ sense?
Cooler heads are uncertain as to when this turned into something that required prevailing. In any event, I appreciate it, but I’m afraid I’ll have to decline your offer. If I was in need of help, I’d enlist the resources of someone… helpful.
Poor Brendan :(

I foresee a fight before going to bed. That’s no good :(
I feel bad, but I couldn’t stop laughing at the last three slides. Just the look on his face reminds me that he is such a young guy at this point.
that is 100 percent the ANGRY BERT face

“Little spokesman and his Giant Robot”?
That sounds like Al and Brendan are going to turn into: “Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot!” Heh, heh. :D

He should not be this adorkable when he’s angry.

will brenny be mad at a dripping-wet alastair, emerging from the shower?
;-) ;-)

i am a tad worried, that allie—in panel 4—was actually looking perplexed?
that was the expression you wanted him to have, blue?
Yep. Brendan heard everything. Including Al’s ‘Sure can.’
Crap.
Wait, is Doc there angling to drive Al home? Maybe stop for a few drinks? Brendan shouldn’t care what Al says to them; Al seems to think they are empty suits.
Wait a second. When is this on the flashback timeline? Could this be the argument they had before Al died? If it is, I might pop.
It can’t be – they don’t have any robots yet. It might be the beginning of the problem, though.
I guess that’s true. And more damningly, Al hasn’t shaved his beard yet.
>”We have a ride.”
>Takes the bus.
Oh Al. xD
if i might inquire, are you aware of how alastair had passed away?
that was directed to Leif, but something funky happened and my comment got mis-placed

Hard to tell sincerity through text. :(
cooler heads will prevail, leif.
my query stands as is.
i can help you, potentially, gain insight

i didn’t know i had grievously-offended you, at some previous point in time, to receive this sort of feedback from you, now, leif.
that’s cool, though.
i’ll make a note of this exchange, and shall try my best to steer clear of you, from hereön.
this guy is full of more cringe than an episode of Wipeout
ok
If I might inquire, are you aware of how not to come across as a pompous ass?
you talkin’ to me?
Guys, come on, enough. This thread’s getting shut down.
BRENDAN. NEVER GO TO BED ANGRY!
Al, man….not cool :(
