Awwwwwww!!! She looks adorable! And yes, Brendan, that is a lovely vest
The vest is an underrated piece of clothing. The vest needs a comeback. I like his vest too.
vest, vestity vest vest vest.
vest.
VEESSSTTTT!!!!!
Either the vest doesn’t suit Brendan or it is somehow very garish. Otherwise I doubt the general would have blinked an eye.
Personally, I love the vest on Brendan. I think it’s just because he’s dressing to stand out that it surprises the bureaucratic general.
I would really like to know what Brendan’s vest colors *really* are… I bet the red-only palette here isn’t doing them justice at all! :P
I love how all the comments are of Brendan’s beautiful vest. You’re welcome, Blue-sama.
So you’re saying you want him to invest, rather than divest. ;)
Seeee myyyy vest see my vest…
Flashback to:

Somehow I doubt our general will warm to Brendan as much as Al did…
Ah, but he’s so much more confident now at least! XD
High-heel prosthetic feet? I wonder if the parts are modular, it’d be interesting to have a wardrobe of legs/feet instead of shoes.
these exist. They’re super expensive and insurance usually doesn’t cover them, but people do switch out their feet/legs for fancy occasions
Not too festive? Somehow I get the feeling it’s good for their current mission he didn’t use the gay synonym. The general doesn’t seem like he’d take kindly to that side of things…
Al’s final statement is perfect.
But Brendan is adorable in that vest. I love drawing vests.
This page is adorable. Yes, Brendan, your vest is great.
I don’t know why it only just occurred to me that Lucille does all the work on her prototypes *while wearing/using prototypes*. I hope for her sake that she was right-handed before whatever happened to her left arm (if she wasn’t born without one), it must be so frustrating to do precision work on something so that you can use it to do more precise work on the next version…
It’s how technology proceeds: you build the tools to build the tools to build the tools to build the thing you want. Sometimes your grandkids have to finish the job for you.
And each time the process gets a little faster because you are learning skills and refining both tools and technique to suit what you are doing. Eventually you get to the point where you reach the limit of what tools you have can do. Then you either design new tools or make due with what you got XD
why no love for lucille?
is ally jealous?
does he actually have A Secret Crush?
Best vest in the west.
I’m glad Brendan is enthusiastic, but when you are pitching an idea to a customer, you should NEVER have your wardrobe competing with your idea for attention.
Your clothes in business situations should not be the focus of discussion, unless you are trying to sell clothes or your body in particular (some women and gay men often don’t get this, this is business, not ‘Project Runway’). So far the message Brendan is sending is ‘look at me! look at me!’ not ‘listen to my idea’. People in the military brass especially are not impressed with ‘youthful’, attention grabbing ‘trendy’ or ‘flash’, it goes against their reserved cultural outlook of subdued but quiet competency and serious meritocracy.
First rule of professional business: Know thy customer and be respectful of their culture, Brendan. Telling them you’re gay with loud visual cues should not be the way you EVER start your sales pitch with folks in the military leadership, unless you want to alienate them…and their money.
My bet is that the Brass tunes Brendan out as immature ‘noise’ and focuses on quiet, mature, and reserved Al. I’m also betting this is going to give Brendan fits of moral indignation and have Al trying not to roll his eyes with the hystronics.
On the contrary, Al was fairly perturbed by the way the man on the phone, who’s shaking brendan’s here, was thinly dismissive of Brendan ‘the spokesperson’ and Lucille, as though he didn’t take their contributions as seriously. (Whether or not he knows Brendan really does put his share into Sterling inc. , Lucille definitely shows her work.) This leads to the ‘guy like them’ mentality that the military men are saddling Al with.
The focus of this development here is on this point of tension, about Brendan not noticing this and Al being all too aware about it. Alongside Brendan’s growth from an enthusiastic (and brash) personality to the more reserved and secretive type he is in the future, is this equally salient issue of being ‘a guy like them’, which would be (unfairly) jeopardized if Al were ‘out’ with Brendan. That’s still an unresolved point, and this plot event is really raising the stakes for that. That’s what I see in this ostensibly light-hearted bit about the vest: it’s about Brendan’s jumpy young blood on one hand (eg the wunderkind comment), and the pressures against being Out (eg the hand-holding thing brendan brought up with al before the conference) and how that affects people’s attitudes to you. The privacy they seek in the elevator, the fuss over clothing, and the need to appeal to their investors are bringing this all to a head, and this meeting is the stage that I expect will have this play out in.
In other words, I would flip the situation: instead of it being a matter of the military being alienated by Brendan, it is a matter of Al being alienated by their looking for guys like them. Whether the Out thing will bust open here or not, the military has enough monetary pull to motivate the duo into adopting their culture. Will Brendan do that? I don’t know.
Not all guys who wear vests are non-hetero. My brother-in-law for example:6’6″, slim, shaved head, handsome, good cook, hetero. He looks good in a vest or a full suit. However, I’m glad I chose his brother, even though he is short, chubby and balding. Why? Because my hubby is a nice guy who makes me laugh, and his bro is more than a little bit of an asshole most of the time.
Oh my god. Remember the last time we heard about colloids?http://ohumanstar.com/chapter-3-page-49/
I think they’re some sort of symbol for first impressions! After all, your first judgement of someone only goes skin deep…
(i’ve been analyzing this comic pretty intensely in my head lately, can you tell)
(oh wait, i just realized that the last mention of colloids was actually here:
http://ohumanstar.com/chapter-4-page-25/
which doesn’t have anything to do with first impressions. But still.)
Oh and! Both Sulla and Lucille are revealing their true selves through discussion of fake skin. How’s that for irony?
WTF is the BFD with the vest???!!! Nothing rings true for me in the rambling lectures already posted. Then again, I live in an infinitely more relaxed part of the USA.
It does seem strange that she’s using a traditional prosthesis, considering we already have better ones now.
