It certainly explains why, even in this future, Al is still in the closet. If the same ol’ institutionalized prejudices are in play here, I’m sure he’d still be concerned about homophobia… Especially how it tends to be alive and well in many CURRENT tech circles.

OK, unless he was huge and dressed in leather and had lots of piercings and stuff. But after “upload memories into robot brains,” I’d probably ignore it. I’m thinking Al is his own persecutor here; he has issues we don’t know about yet.
