I illustrated another comic with Kevin Knodell and David Axe for War Is Boring on Medium for the 4th of July. I’m really pleased with how my colors turned out, so go give it a read.

this is gonna be like narbonic I can feel it.
it’s Al but he’s a brain in a jar.
I wondered if it could be something like Rudy Rucker’s ‘lifeboxes’ or Zelazny’s AI tombstones, a talking database that could answer questions about an archived person’s life and thoughts. But then I realized that Al would never tell his lifebox the most important stuff.
The more I think about Rudy Rucker, the more I wonder if Blue has read SOFTWARE? It begins with AIs who have escaped to the moon to build their own civilization coming back to upload their aging creator into a robot body. After that, it gets weird.
So he’s been special-ordering for years? And we already know this isn’t the first “Al” to show up on his doorstep. Most of the special stuff has to be for Sulla.
Blue, that’s a great job on the fireworks. Some vets avoid and some go for the desensitization effect of bangs and booms in a cheerful setting. Everyone has to deal with their own mind, I guess.
this story keeps getting better and interesting.
I’m sure it’s just visual, but the strikethough on that contacts page looks less like checking off a list and more like NEVER CONTACT THESE PEOPLE AGAIN.
Anyone else think the mysterious person is an ex boyfriend that Brendan tried to rebound with after Al’s passing and the relationship ended badly or something? Or a scientific rival that’s just a little too friendly/odd?
Aaaah I hope we get to see this mysterious person tomorrow monday hnng!
Hmm, so Lucille, one of his closest friends, doesn’t know about Sulla. She does have friends in the machinists she works with, but they may not know that she’s a robot, or for that matter Brendan’s daughter. Or they do and they’re sworn to secrecy, but I think we can assume that if Lucille doesn’t know, very few people do. Brendan, you’ve gotten good at keeping secrets, haven’t you?
