I don’t know what’s wrong with you, fiddling remotely; it seems rude not to let the person you’re talking to see what you create out of nearby objects.

You’d be doing the world a disservice by not!

I usually lurk, but since I’ve come out of hiding I’d like to say this comic is amazing and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

This isn’t The Future though, this is a flashback to 2003. This is The Past and certainly in 2003 DARPA and the like had the deepest pockets.

I bet it’s Grandma. I also bet she’s not emulated as well as Al or Sulla. And I bet Al can fix that, now that he’s back.

The military’s involvement makes me think of Joe Haldeman’s ‘soldierboys,’ big remote robot drones run by direct brain connection. Maybe they are thinking ‘just download the soldier INTO the soldierboy?’
The character development is very well-done; Al is a bundle of repressed twitchiness and energy, always fiddling. As someone said, the multitool is a great symbol. The guy on the phone has no idea that he is stressing.
Blue, I don’t tear paper and roll it, I doodle little people with grotesque faces all over and give them word balloons saying “oh no” and “wtf” and “eep.” So far my head hasn’t exploded so it must relieve the pressure.
