Page 14. It’s 2003, for those keeping track.
Edit: Just a head’s up, guys, I’m doing a major site overhaul that may result in brief outages this weekend. If that happens, don’t worry about it. Unlike the last few times the site went down, this overhaul is intended to keep the site from breaking in the future. I will also consequently be moving the next update to Thursday so that nothing gets lost in the shuffle to a new web host. Thanks for understanding, guys, I promise this will make the site way better in the long run.
Al looks like Hannibal Chau in the second to last panel, hehe. Loving this new flashback so far! :D
Al’s an engineer. That means he solves problems.
Not problems like, “What is beauty?”, because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy.
Brendan, you may have just transitioned from charm to smarm.
I think I’ll see where the upcoming fight may be coming from.
This is Al’s corporation, through and through, and Brendan works for HIM. Yet it seems like Brendan is taking charge and making Al look like the lackey. It’s Al’s own fault for being the quiet one but I can still see this happening.
“Quit harassing the photographer and let him get a good picture of the heart of our operation.” Hmm. Funny, I thought Al was the heart of the operation.
*
It is very plain to see who is the Wozniak and who is the Jobs in this relationship. Sadly, this does not bode well for Brendan, his ego might be about to grow ten sizes to large for his head.

In relation to what Dengarde said, I think it’s time we all pretty much acknowledge that Al was never in the business for money or fame, but Brendan is, his ambition says it all. Al is going along with things because he loves Brendan, not because he wants social or financial recognition from others…he only wants Brendan to recognize and love him. By the time Brendan figures this out, it may be too late.
Aw, Al looks awesome with those googles :3
Al is the heart of Brandon’s operation, amirite
But in all seriousness, yeah, I can see where this would probably start chafing at Al. Also, I dunno if he’d feel the same way, but as a creative introvert who likes their personal space, being observed and documented while working on something would feel horribly uncomfortable and invasive.
odd.
i interpreted it as brendan’s inferring that al was the “heart,” on which al was disrupting the photog.
but, on third review.. ..actually, the heart is in brendan’s hands.
Al being ornery about blogs is adorable and fuck. i also really like Brendan’s “work with me, please” expression in the last panel.
I think you did a good job in showing how they ended up dividing their jobs and running Sterling in this flashback. Al just wants to make stuff and Brendan’s doing his best to keep that a possibility.
I wonder why Al ever shaved his beard. He was so much hotter when he was scruffy.
Wow… O_O This comic TRULY DOES show a world ahead of its time. I remember 2003! That’s the year I graduated high school! “Blog” wasn’t even close to being in standard vernacular use until at least 4 or even 6 years later. I mean yeah, blogs started popping up BEFORE the term gained popularity, but it still astonishes me to see this beautifully rendered world in all its anachronistic glory. I’m betting there’s even allegories to youtube and reddit and a bustling DIY community. Seriously, I can’t even imagine what I wasted all my time on way back in those days… all 11 years ago XD
“The hell’s a blog” should have been this page’s tag-line.
(or perhaps more rightfully..
..Da hell’s a blog.
{yeah?})
I’m not normally into chronic grouches, but Al’s curmudgeonliness is really kind’a funny.
