HA! Best call in the whole comic.
I guess Sulla was disappointed because she would rather pass as a girl than just human! Aww.
I thought she was hoping to get his approval on being… him, but female. “You pass really well”… as my family? My daughter?
She is, after all, arguably more closely related to him than to Brendan. Brendan made her, but Al is who she was made to be. I think she needs to be reassured that she’s not superfluous now; that this Al isn’t here to replace her. He may or may not know how much she’d like his quasi-parental approval.
Was that a hell of a recovery from Al in the third panel? He realized she was looking for gender validation and smoothly provided it, while also implying that she was mature for her age–he knows perfectly well she’s not sixteen yet, since Brendan just told him he was saving the multitool for her sixteenth birthday.
Good job, Al!
Not the poking around that you think :)) Sulla is the most precious fifteen year old.
Brendan sure did some “poking” with Al ;)
I’m just wondering why Al is making that face though…
“Hey, Al, wanna play doctor?”
Oh yeah. Al, how ’bout that prostate exam?
I guess in the future, we’ve stopped being sick of getting told how well we do or don’t pass every single day of our lives.
Meh, I’m sorry for how hostile and grumpy that came off. It’s just something we can’t escape, in real life. No reason the future should be as dismal, though. Sulla is wonderful and adorable as always. :)
Gotta admit, I found that a little off-putting, too. Not that it came up, necessarily, but Sulla’s reaction to it.
Most of the trans* folk I know don’t really appreciate their “passing” coming up, one way or the other.
Of course, Sulla might be a slightly different case, with the synthetic-ness and all. -shrug-
Oh god, Sulla. My heart. Every time she talks, it’s like my heart swells a thousand times for her. She is really my favorite character.
Hahaha!
I’m sure Brendand did some “poking”! Excellent strip!
i am rather tickled-fuchsia by the idea of brendan’s pinning al down and, you know, “poking around” in the big lug
of course, al could also be referring to those nightmares he’s had
i can imagine either of these compelling Sir Sterling into making his best “i am less-than-impressed about this” mug.
(maybe bren-bren and allustair had encountered some issues because bren had wanted some old man booty, buy allus wasn’t willing to indulge the young chap?)

Scroll all the way down the page.
i wonder what’s the non-canonical part, then: bren-bren and allus being versatile with one anudder, or al having dated women?
at any rate, these fellas make me hearken to Burt and Kevin.
in the sense of, you’d think the bigger guy is the exclusive top…
…but, rather, they both flip-flop.
:-).
thank you again, madam rosie, for your assistance: i just loved these ohumanstar omake!
especially Movie Night
(♥)
Burt & Kevin?
if you happened to be familiar with the author, those two names would likely ring an immediate bell for you
are you curious, rosie?
Last panel LOL XD
Swing and a miss Sulla. Swing and a miss…
That Al’s mysterious benefactors were able to restore a human mind nearly perfectly (or better than Brendan could) but couldn’t provide as human-seeming a body is kind of weird, considering how stupefyingly ignorant we are in the present concerning the workings of the brain as compared to the body, but perhaps I’m overthinking this.
Well, it depends how you look at it. Al looks completely human except his hands; that’s a small area but it’s pretty hard to hide. Sulla looks completely human except her shoulders; that’s bigger but easier to cover up? But if they can make human hands for Sulla, couldn’t Al have the same? Maybe different companies have different technologies…or there’s a law that all robots must be identifiable.
(Or rule of storytelling. I am DEFINITELY overthinking this.)
The part that makes my heart go all wibbly is– Sulla CHOSE to keep that giant hawk-beak of a nose that looks almost too big and blocky on AL’s face. She could look like anything and anyone– she presumably shouldn’t have to worry for a second about passing– but she chose to still look like him/the way she “used to” look/the way she was made to look. That’s a lot of fondness right there. (The pessimist in me just woke up and said “What if Brendan made her keep it?” which I hope is not what happened because that’d be pretty awful of him.)
Why is everyone so mean about her nose it’s fucking cute
