I’m a little late to comment on this, but Sulla is a character in R.U.R by Karel Čapek. She’s there in the first scene, which I guess makes her the first robot in human literature. The first one called a “robot”, anyway.

Helena: It’s a man’s name. Sulla was a Roman general.
Domin: Was he? We thought Marius and Sulla were lovers.
