She gave herself the name Sulla, didn’t she? Was Brendan calling her Al up until then?
She was probably in a body modeled after Al’s. Brendan might have even been calling her Al. Regardless, it’s probably there to mimic the way that transfolk take new names appropriate to their true gender – She likely had a name before anyway. A masculine name, which might give this realization that the first thing her friend thought of on hearing it was of a male name a bit of a vicious kick.
I imagine she used to go by Alastair, with emphasis on the “star”. It seems a likely route by which you’d arrive at Sulla.
… said the girl who was a boy. Ty can’t imagine the meaning behind this sentence. Brendan loves her so much, i hope one day Al will be a part of this family.
hey, please don’t refer to a trans girl as a “girl who was a boy”, or any trans person in a similar way. trans people don’t “become” another gender.

Man, I am loving that this finally got mentioned! I find so few properly knowledgeable history nut characters, or at the least characters who’ve absorbed history, in webcomics, so it’s a welcome change of pace.
Why is Ty’s word-bubble-trail thing always crooked/wobbly? Can anyone more comic-savvy than me tell what it means?
Maybe Ty has a more husky voice, or speaks a bit start-and-stop. Good spot!

I just realized that it’s kind of a big deal that they’re still using books in a future that has robots. Shout out for print-based media?
I’m a little late to comment on this, but Sulla is a character in R.U.R by Karel Čapek. She’s there in the first scene, which I guess makes her the first robot in human literature. The first one called a “robot”, anyway.
