At a guess its shock, so far hes been in areas that he expects to be strange, like some one elses house.
Now hes in his home town at first it was exciting, but by now its starting to sink in that every thing he knew about the town has changed. and no doubt hes feeling like he doesn’t belong anymore, or maybe will have nothing to contribute to this new society
In my opinion on al being overeactive, no. What he’s going through is similar to culture shock where you are suddenly put into an unknown completely different place you never expected. First comes shock, and then he becomes overwhelmed in the process of feeling dumber and dumber that his survival instincts and knowledge is telling him to take a step back to process the new place and the information. I’ve kinda been through what he’s been through having been moved from my home to America. It’s really bad.
Nah, of course he is. He’s the type of person who likes to be in control of his life. Dictate his interaction with everyone. He worked alone in his little lab because he didn’t want to deal with other people because he didn’t want anyone else to mess with his little world. Not he’s not in control, can’t be in control, and is forced to confront change without anywhere safe to go back to.
I think not. He had thought he had been brought back to life, now he is forced to realise he has not been brought “back” – that it’s a whole new different life, in which he is a stanger.
I don’t think he’s over-reacting, but I think there’s more to it than just shock too. Culture shock and I guess future shock comes when everything inside your comfort zone no longer exists in your surroundings. The food is different, the music is strange, the clothing is bizarre, everything is different and there’s nothing to latch on to that’s comfortable and familiar. Before Brendan came along, Al seemed pretty reclusive so it’s very likely that his comfort zone was really small to begin with. He had his workshop, his robots, his research, and that’s about it.
in that case, al seemed a prime candidate for suffering from “future shock,” even when he was in his own time
this is what being antipathic about interacting with others results in — i, myself, had remarked on how much of a family man Al wasn’t, some weeks ago, after all
i could be wrong, of course
but extreme Introversion can have its drawbacks (those unforeseen consequences definitely aren’t anything to sneeze at) … maybe that peculiarity helps fuel whatever is making the big lug suffer from a panic attack?
Then there’s the whole thing with him being re-animated from the dead into a releastically human robot body. If he has any living relatives/friends he left behind, I’m sure he has a world of questions, too. Pretty heavy stuff!
Ben Fleuter at DERELICT posted a synopsis and reccomendation for O HUMAN STAR.
This is an excellent work M.Delliquanti. You are doing a top notch job of slowly, revealling this brave new world. I have book marked your story and will eagerly follow.
On reflection…heh, heh… Do check out Ben’s current work DERELICT http://derelictcomic.com/. The post-apocolypse is done justice in M. Fleuter’s current project.
There are monsters, but with hearts and minds. There is a lone survivor, who gets the shakes when death is near. There are renascent human cultures, who seem to have good and bad qualities.
And did I mention fantastic art and composition? Now I have.
Check it out friends.
Al might have more problems going on than just cultureshock. Whoever brought about his ressurection may not have pefected the process and Al might be deteriorating in some way… positronic cascade failure like Data’s daughter Lal perhaps.

(Except for one little thing: the layout is such that each time a new page comes up it has to be centered (again!) in the browser-window. It would add to the sense of continuity to have a smooth transition from one page to the next rather than have to adjust its placement.)
-I’m sorry, but this is due to your gigantic banner at the top. If it was a narrower version of what you have now then each new page might come up in the same place on the moniter.
Poor Al, I guess it was too much change.

is future shock really that bad?
doesn’t al have, like, two people who may be more than glad to help him wade through the newness?
isn’t al being a little..over-reactive?

i guess everyone is different
it just didn’t seem like al would be the type to be overwhelmed … by this sort of circumstance
He doesn’t look like the type to be overjoyed about anything either….Al’s complicated. @0@

i still wish to theorize that al was precisely like that, even when he was alive … only, he has to deal with one extra wrinkle now
I think not. He had thought he had been brought back to life, now he is forced to realise he has not been brought “back” – that it’s a whole new different life, in which he is a stanger.

(i wonder if blue might consider switching to an alternate comment system?)
Hey there, Blue here. Is there anything specific I can do to make the comment system better or easier to use?
having an ability to go back and edit a submission would be quite divine, m’lady
a “rewind button” if you will

And Al just keeps surprising me
the poor dear
