blue, i bet you really enjoyed drawing that pose for Alastair, didn’t ya?
(also, researching Real Life Material, to get your reference.
;-).)

i’ve taken note of your.. ..other “reference,” there, with the Shiny Megane-kun Eyes you drew up for mister pinsky.
this was probably quite intentional, on your part.

(i’m still waiting for that Dark Place in the story, which i know you’re capable of relating)

I don’t know about the readable memory part in your theory… it could be something a machine copies and pasts without the creator you’re talking about being able to “translate” it. It could very well be the contents of a black box, something that works but people don’t know how.

I think I know some things about Al’s death now!
One: Before Al’s death, there’s going to be a more sophisticated version of the emulator that can read your subconscious (so it can access all your memories and the subprocesses beneath your thoughts), and that can predict thought and action instead of just replay it. It may be finished, or it may be just barely workable, but it will exist. It will also make the copy-ee’s memories readable to others*, which leads us to
Two: Al & Brendan’s big fight right before he dies is about whether they’ll try to save Al from his disease** by copying him. Al’s got something in his past he’s keeping from Brendan, and he’s so defensive he may well choose death before unmasking, which Brendan will not stand for. Cue a fight.
*We know the memories are readable, because only Al would have known the significance of both the dog and the ballerina robots. His creator has been through all his memories and found out about them.
**They both knew he was going to die, because they were both planning to bring him back (WAIT SHIT, DIDN’T SULLA SAY THAT THIS WAS WHAT AL WANTED, LET ME GO CHECK THOSE PAGES). Can’t have been murder or suicide, therefore sickness.
(Blue, could we have a forum? I’d be willing to moderate and it’s getting to where we need to be able to have archived, long-form discussions.)
(dammit rosie you gotta stop this comment-monopolizing)
