God, I love the faces in this comic. Brendan’s faces in panels #5 and #7 are especially awesome and so is the shocked look on Al’s face in #6. I really can’t get enough of Brendan yelling at Al for being obtuse :)
Al’s always been the grumpy one up in the flashbacks, but Brendan always seems so anxious in the present. Guess it’s a sign of the times and the stress he’s been under.
I’m pretty sure Al’s death was suicide, which would explain why he is LESS than happy to be alive right now. I’m still holding on to the theory that Sulla recreated Al, and it’s not that difficult to believe she’d steal the multitool… Any thoughts?
slowly I also start thinking Sula recreated Al…didn’t it say somewhere that Brendan used Al’s stored memories to creat her? If I’m right with that I think those memories somehow showed her a way to creat Al, the Ballerina and the Dog-Robot from the beginning. That would mean in a way Al recreated himself…I still think she had some help from people we don’t know yet…mutual friends/colleagues of Brandon or Al or maybe his family? Someone must have helped her with getting everything she needed starting with a place to work…
I also think it was Sulla, or at least was involved. In ch.1 p.12 the robo-dog said “It was Mr. Pinsky’s estate that commissioned us to reconstuct you in the first place. To fill a void in the robotics community that was left behind after your death. To ensure that your genius was not lost.” I believe that that void also included in Brenden’s heart.
Also in ch.1 p.13 the ballerina said “We are all happy to have you back. All of us.” I believe “us” are the AIs not just the two. If you look at Blue’s short comic Oh, Maker (which by the way made me cry, especially listening to the actually song while looking through it) you see Sulla expressing…an expression without words seeing Brenden stare at the picture of him and Al with depression. What I’m talking about is that the AIs have advanced to the point where they are able to created AIs by themselves that are just as advanced, if not, more.
Ok, I read some pages again and I was wrong. On page 21 chapter 1 Brendan says clearly that Sula is Al’s copy WITHOUT his memories. But he also says that he made his own Al-Copy WITH the copy he had from Al’s mind but that it was “imperfekt”…now I have some theories of my own:
1. I think Al died from an illness (on the first pages you see blood coming out of his mouth) I think he has told nobody that he is ill not even Brendan.
2. There are two bowls of cereal and two cups of tea on the table at the beginning and also a letter to Al sticked to the pillow so I think that they had a fight shortly bevore Al died but they couldn’t reconcile agian so Brendan probably feels guilty somehow
3. Brendan says when he first met Al that there where already sent several “false” Alastairs to his home so probably someone is trying to confuse him or take advantage of his feelings…someone is up to something
4. I think this person took part in rebuilding Al with the help of Sula. People who could have done this: A concurent of Brendan, the Mechanic Sula mentions that sells her parts she needs or my favorit theory: It was Brendans own first copy of Al. I think if he made an Al-Copy once, he couldn’t stand to destroy it again
I think they knew he was sick, or at least Al knew, because it’s been said that Brendan was planning to bring him back if he died, so they have to have discussed it.
Reading through for the first time today. This page made me so upset I actually put down my laptop and sobbed. My heart is breaking for these characters I’ve known for less than twelve hours. Blue, you are a master of story.
This comic makes me feel things I only feel for exceptionally well written stories. SO HEARTBREAKING.
I’m 99% sure Brendan is not just referencing Al’s death with the “Keep you with me” comment….
;____;
Extreme plot development is extreme! Plot! Revelation! Feelings! Arrggh :s
Seconding all of the above. How can one page twice a week give me such feels I can’t even. ;^;
Please please please please

Anyone up for some speculating? (Spoiler Alert?)

Well, I think Sulla did it. Somehow.

I also hope that later Al and Brenden make love again. I hate seeing them act like they aren’t back together. You know what I mean?

Aaaand my mom is wondering why I was just squealing a while ago. Now, she wonders why I’m crying =3=
