It took me a reread to get it–THIS is why Al says “Are you just going to stand there?” to Brendan when he suspects it’s just another robot copy… my heart hurts.

You know, reading back to Chapter 1 the thing that strikes me now is how impressive it is that, with all the stress he’s under (You just woke up, and you’re a robot, and you’ve been dead for 16 years!) Al still has the presence of mind to say the one thing that might convince Brendan that he’s himself and not someone else’s half-baked copy. Gah, it’s just really poignant.
