He could have downed a cup of arsenic. The symptoms include vomiting blood and going into a coma. Would also explain the note and the awkwardness if it was on purpose.
Then again, he doesn’t seem particularly suicidal, he clearly didn’t write the note, they specifically used the words “took ill”, and if he had intended to commit suicide, then would he not have done it in his bedroom? He knocked over the table, struggled up the stairs, drew the curtains and collapsed into bed. I think it was the culmination of a disease that killed him, but that’s just a theory.
This page is so powerful.
This is my second read though and what happened before he died hasn’t been reveled but considering the outcome of “are you just going to stand there” turned out in a flashback I’m expecting this is foreshadowing the nature of the last time they saw each other. I can only imagine at this point, some sort of horrid fight?
I love this comic to death. Such an expert execution of the literature.
So how exactly DID he die? MEaning, form what? What happened? Was Brendan involved somehow? Looks like an awkward moment here.

Hm, seems like now we might know what was the last thing before he died. How awkward.
