O-ho, you.
I love Al’s face in the background of the second panel all “waitwhat?” vs. Brendan’s enthusiasm.
I re-read the totality of your webcomic last night and I loved it even more. I think I had missed out a few details. I think it’s safe to say it I like it mroe and more each passing day.
Hmm… Brendan is going to be high on success when this is over (assuming nothing goes wrong, which i don’t think it will) but I wonder how Al is going to react. He’s got plenty of reasons to be upset at Brendan- mostly not-so-good reasons, but reasons all the same.
Agreed (and good spot on the photo!) Brendan’s got such a natural flair for performance – Al’s pretty much the opposite. The spotlight might just miss him entirely, and the crowd will be so dazzled by Brendan that they won’t even notice. I hope Al doesn’t become the invisible ‘techie’ in the back. He always seems like he needs a confidence boost.
I loved Brendan’s joke though. The utter horror on Al’s face!
True, but I think it’s good-natured laughter, not mockery or disgust. Maybe it’s just the surprise of having their expectations flipped. I don’t know how visible gay people are in this story’s universe, but if they are still a smaller percentage of the population as they are in ours I can see why the audience might default to assuming it’s more likely that Brendan is straight. And then being wrong :)
Agreed, the laughter definitely isn’t offensive; they’re just laughing at the unexpected. “Gorgeous” isn’t a word that either men or women typically use to refer to a man; “handsome” would be more conventional to refer to a man (and unusual to refer to a woman). Breaking that convention got a good laugh.
I do think the comic chose it intentionally, to play off of Al’s surprise and concern (which may come up again later), but I don’t think the audience would even begin to think that Brendan is gay because of that comment; they’ll just get a laugh out of it. (Now, on the other hand, an astute audience member might think something about the look on Al’s face, but they still couldn’t draw any certain conclusion from it.)
Will something go bad with the demonstration? Maybe that’s why Al and Brendan were so separate in the picture. Or will Al get jealous of all the attention or feel redundant? I feel a little like ‘I don’t want to know, but…’
Oh man, Al’s face “Brendan, what, no – too many people, stop, what are you doing?!”
LOL @ Al’s face.
Someone’s forgotten their nerves and is going off script.

Once again, thanks for sharing your talent!
Brendan, why are you so great. I love how that actually scared Al. Al, you are so bad at people.
That’s a gorgeous lady!
i admire brendan’s sense of showmanship

Well, that’s Brendans sexuality in a nutshell. Ha! Okay, not exactly, but Al is going to kill him anyway.
Her hair looks practically digital. So does her jewelery. This should be interesting.
come on next thursday!
i cannot wait for thee!

I think it will go well, but Al would feel like an outsider because of Brendan’s showmanship.

I just want to point out the crowd laughing at the idea of him calling a man gorgeous. Idk if it was intentionally trying to make a point but yeah.
