Hmm… you’d think they’d recognize Al, but then Brendan said something about having seen Al lookalikes before… maybe “dressing up” like their hero is kind of a trend?
(i can’t imagine Al reacting very well to being a trendsetter…)
Also, dreadlocks robot continues to be a cutie.
I’m a bit uneasy about robots becoming a part of human life. Robots can blend with us but there’s the immortality, the questionable emotions and probable replacements for life passed away that disturbs the natural order. Well, it’s their world. I’m not racist against robots but it’s seriously questionable of where humans stand with them.
I don’t think you have to worry about the immortality at the moment, or even in the foreseeable future. How long does your car last before something breaks on it? Or your phone before a newer model comes out? How bout your computer? If capitalism has it’s way in the future, planned obsolescence will shorten the life-span of everything to a little more than a month.
As for emotions and replacements, I’d worry more about clones than robots. We’re further with that tech than getting a realistic robot that can pass a Turing test.
Yeah… but if you can copy a mind from human to robot, surely you can copy it from a robot to a newer model. Sulla’s had her chassis changed several times, right?
…oh god that could mean immortality is only possible for robots with a certain amount of wealth. Either that or you would have to sell your old body for scrap to afford a new one. DYSTOPIA AHOY!
If you think robots are automatically immortal, I invite you to have a conversation with my ten-year-old PowerBook :-)
No reason for machines to aspire to look human of course. There are lots of options open to them. I guess Sully acquired the taste for a humanlike chassis from Brendan.
Man. Whew. I never realized just how much trans symbolism this story had. Idk if I was reading with blinders on before or what but this? It doesn’t get much more blunt than what Sulla says right here.

i want to marry this synthetic woman, rosie
Can Al and Sulla hide the glowing wire-type lines on their hands? Because they seemed to be visible until now.
that … is a good question. . . . .
I’m pretty sure flying gives you away, Sulla…

I really like the parallels here to the experience of being transgender.

FYI there’s a problem in the website’s code. When I go to “ohumanstar.com” it just takes me to an older page, and I can’t click “next.”
She can look like anything she wants…and she kept THAT nose? Yikes!
Great story so far, though! :)
What’s wrong with her nose?
