I used to do that. When I managed to snare someone for long enough, there was this powerful sense of schadenfreud when you the life in their eyes decayed into hollow nothingness.
I’ve been on the recieving end of one. For me it felt like someone skinning your soul with an anesthetized knife.
Sometimes I would lock eyes with someone else doing the same thing. I sometimes ‘won’, but either way there was this icky feeling that something was suddenly terribly, spiritually wrong; like I had suddenly landed in one of Junji Ito’s horror manga.
The girl with the glasses has been in this comic far too long just staring and not saying anything. She’s genuinely starting to creep me out whenever I see her now. I worried that if she becomes a bigger part of the story she’ll always be the weird mute starey girl.
